Group: Nage-waza » Tachi-waza » Te-waza
Gokyo: 28th Technique (Yonkyo 4th Group 4th Technique)

Tori holds the back of both of Ukes thighs from the right (left) side of Ukes back with both hands, breaks his balance directly back, scoops him up toward the rear, nd drops him. Tori can also scoop Uke up by holding him with the right (left) hand inserted between Ukes thighs. Similar techniques are covered below.

Hints

  • When you swing your left pelvic region up and out, it is vital that you scoop your opponents body up in both your arms.
  • It is also all right to pass your left arm over his left arm and get a hug hold on him.

Short description

Sukui-nage (Scooping throw) 掬投

In the sukui-nage, you stand to the right of your opponent facing forward juft as he is. After you bring your left foot around behind both his legs, wrap your left arm from the front around the back of his left thigh. Holding this body under your right arm, catch him behind the right knee with your right hand. Then, twisting your body sharply to the left, falls, and throw your oppontent to the rear.
Stand in the left natural position facing Uke who is in the natural position. You attempt to pull Uke to his left front, but he ressists, draws his left foot back, and pulls you strongly with both arms.
As you lower your hips and put your right foot a little to the left side, bend your upper body forward, bring your left leg around to a point behind Ukes left heel, and put your right foot on the outside of and behind his right foot.
Cross your left arm in front of your opponents abdomen, and get a good deep hold on the back of his left thigh. Slip your right arm under his right leg so that you are supporting the back of his knee with your forearm and your hand. Swing your left hip upward and to the front. At the same time, scoop Uke up in both arms. Throw him to his left rear.

Description

Sukui-nage (Scooping throw) 掬投

Tori and Uke grapple in right natural posture. Tori steps back with his right foot, then his left foot, then his right foot again, pulls Uke forward, breaking his balance, and comes to a halt. At this moment, Tori assumes a left defensive posture while pressing Ukes upper body down with both hands.
Uke, being pulled, steps forward with his left foot, then right foot, then left foot again, holds his ground, and, resisting Toris pulling action, begins to return to a stable posture.
At this point, Tori lessens the pulling action of both hands, so that Uke straightens up and begins to step back with his left foot. At this moment, Tori quickly lowers his body while stepping his right foot outside Ukes right foot. At the same time, he releases the left hand and inserts it onto the front of Ukes abdomen, opens his body to the right by pivoting on the right foot, round to Ukes read, and steps his left foot inside and behind Ukes left heel. He lowers his waist and puts his left hand on Ukes left rear thigh, releases the right hand and puts it on Ukes right rear thigh, then he holds Ukes lower body deep with both hands. While raising his upper body, Tori pulls Ukes body up with both hands and lifts him directly toward the rear, breaking his balance. At this moment, Tori moves his left front thigh tight against Ukes right buttock, and loads Ukes buttocks onto his left thigh.
Tori pushes out his waist, and bending backwards, swings Ukes body up while scooping up his legs with both hands, and, twisting to the left, throws him to the rear.

At the moment Uke is stepping back with his left foot in order to return to a stable posture (the moment he supports his body with the right leg), Tori steps his right foot to the side of Ukes right foot, and steps his left foot in behind Uke. It is important to maneuver his body quickly as well.
Tori must move his body tight against Ukes back at the moment he holds Ukes rear thighs with both hands, or he will not be able to scoop him up properly.
At the moment he scoops up, he straightens both knees, bends his upper body back, swings Ukes lower body up with his front waist, twists to the left, and swings Uke to the rears and down.
